A day that is two days at once.

Every year, this date comes back carrying two truths: the life that continued, and the family whose hardest day made it possible. This set holds both, carefully. The keepsake cards mark your anniversary and honor your donor — without a name, without a photo, because that is how this gift works, and because their family is remembered here with the same care as yours.

And for the letter so many recipients carry in their hearts for years: this set includes a gratitude scaffold — not a template. Prompts, in order, and the etiquette that protects both families. The words will be yours, because only yours could be true.

How donor letters actually work — stated plainly. Organ donation is anonymous. Letters to a donor family are sent through your transplant center or organ procurement organization, which screens and forwards them — there is no direct contact, and this set never implies there is. The family receives your letter when and if they are ready. No reply is owed, and none should be expected. Your gratitude is complete the moment it is written with care.

The details sheet

Write it once. Check it here. Never from memory.

Every name and date goes on this sheet first, in letter boxes, with the weekday checked against the date — before a single card is built. Precision is a form of love, so we made it part of the suite.

Questions, answered plainly

Why is there no finished thank-you letter in this set?

Because a letter to a donor family is one of the few texts in life that should never be templated. What we give you is the structure, the order, and the etiquette — the scaffold. The words that carry your gratitude have to be yours.

How do I actually send the letter?

Through your transplant center or your organ procurement organization. You address it as they instruct — typically to "my donor family" — and they screen it (to remove identifying details) and forward it to the family. Never attempt direct contact; the anonymity protects them and you. The details sheet has a place to write down your center's exact routing instructions.

Will the family write back?

Sometimes families do, through the same screened route. Most often, they don't — and that is not a measure of your letter. Their grief is their own, and your gratitude was complete when you sent it with care.

I received a living-donor kidney from my sister. Does this fit us?

Partly, honestly. The keepsake and remembrance cards fit any transplant anniversary. The letter scaffold is written for deceased-donor families and the anonymous route; for a known living donor, the guide notes what changes — the letter goes directly, in your own way — and the prompts work unchanged.
